Emotions are a funny thing. One day I feel like the next Steve Jobs/Billy Graham able to conquer the world and the next day I feel like a failure destined to meaninglessness. At times I let my emotions drive me. If I have a Steve Jobs kind of day I am really productive and talk to God a lot. If it's the opposite I kinda just sulk and do nothing. But that is not how we should be because emotions lie. They exaggerate moments to extremes and blow things out of proportion. They can make us feel less than or sometimes maybe puff us up a little too much.
In reality we should not listen or abide by our emotions, the bible says, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?" Jeremiah 17:9. The way to truly walk in peace and deepen your relationship with God is to live out of and through Jesus. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." That means when you wake up feeling negatively or when negative thoughts may come and attack, you reject how you feel and those thoughts and lean on what God says. That means read his word, surrender them, and speak truth over yourself.
Emotions may lie but they should not be totally ignored. You need to surrender them to the Lord and ask him if they have meaning. Emotions are like triggers; something is always pulling at them. The key is to identify the cause and not just be consumed with the effect. You will grow a lot as a human and spiritually when you start surrendering your emotions to God and finding causes. Is it a show/music that is influencing you, a person in your life, or even an insecurity you have running around? It could be these or any number of reasons but you need to know causes to find the lies roots and be able to pull them out and replace them with the Truth.
We have been given an ultimate gift with Jesus who is a good Father who promises, "Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know." Jeremiah 33:3. When we call out to him, it does not fall on deaf ears. He hears you & answers you! Then He goes even farther to say, "I will show you even more about the situation and about how I made you." He loves you with love that you can not even begin to understand. He delights in talking with you and wants to work with you through all the parts of yourself you don't like to talk about. He delights in just sitting and being with you. Realize that emotions are not reality. The reality is that you have a Father that is your security and a complete fulfillment of everything you will ever need. He is always there, He always provides. Now trust him and let him do his thing.
