I have found this time really hard to concentrate on anything, I have really high points with the Lord and some low. I struggled with this inner dialogue telling me that I should be better, and everyone else is using this time better than me doing "___". The major takeaway from this time is what Roosevelt said, "Comparison is the thief of Joy"
How often do we feel insecure or worthless not for what we are but for what we are not. I get so caught up in everything I am not doing/accomplishing that I rarely take time to look what I have. We are in an era that craves adventure. We desire more than any generation before us to have more than just what our parents have, we want more than to work 40 years for 15 year of retirement. We want love, family, travel, comfort, and risk. I believe we are a generation of world changers because of this. We rally around causes and we like to debate to seek and find the truth. But so many us are so insecure. We all put up this front of how successful, beautiful, and happy we are. Looking at our linked-ins, blogs, social medias, etc you see this perfectly curated life. But unless we really spend time with Jesus figuring out who we are without all of that stuff, all we have is the mirage that we conjured.
"Where the purpose of something is unknown abuse is inevitable." I heard this the other day on a podcast with Michael Todd & Sadie Robertson. This explains a lot about what I am describing and where our generation gets a lot of it's hurt. Christians and secular alike get their purpose caught up in other people, careers, hobbies, emotions, etc. When your purpose is changing and not in eternity your whole self shifts when something happens to it. Psalms 57:2 "I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me." Our purpose is not in anything we can do. Our purpose is to be in relationship with the creator of the universe. Now I do believe in a calling that is what comes from your purpose/relationship with God which are things that He wants to do through you and talents He has given you. But our purpose is to know the Father and seek his face. Jeremiah 29:13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
No matter how far behind or insignificant you may feel the creator of the universe sees you for how you are truly designed. Everyday of the creation story He made something and said, "it is good". But with the creation of man & woman He looked upon it and called it, "very good". You are not defined by your level of success, number of relationships, your reputation, etc. The only opinion and voice that matters in Eternity and now is Jesus. The more you read and pray the closer to Him you are. The more you know about Him the easier it is to know when He is speaking and what He is saying. In Jeremiah 33:3 He promises, "Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know." Spend time today reflecting on lies you believe about yourself. Write then down, then spend time talking and calling to Jesus asking where these started, what are the roots of them? Then take the next couple days and find truths in God's word (the bible) that contradicts the lies and tells you about what God really thinks.
