There is a great song called, "New Name Written Down in Glory", and there is a revolutionary concept in this song. For me it hits the clearest in a line that says, "I am who I am because The I AM tells me who I am." A little context to help this be clear to you is that in the bible one of the names God calls himself is I AM, or The I AM. So what the song is saying with the title and that verse is that who we are, our identity, comes from who and what God says we are.

There are age old questions like, "Who am I?" and "Why am I here?". All humans ask these at some point. We have a desire to know who we are. We can not just find the answers within ourselves.

Luckily God gave us the answer. Our identity is Christ. Clarification we are not the living son of God who has god powers and are the end all be all. It means that we were created with the express purpose to have relationship with Christ. It means that Jesus created you in a very specific way, with very specific talents, abilities, characteristics, and personality traits. Your identity is in being a son/daughter of God and walking with him in life and the plans He has for you. I will tell you why this is crazy awesome.

This means that the intelligent all knowing creator that made you has a life planned & tailored to your talents and weaknesses that he wants to grow you through. That it is all designed to bring you closer to who you are created to be and to bring you closer to the creator/Father. This does not mean you are gonna have an easy perfect life with a bugatti, a perfect credit score, and be with that perfect person from a rom-com. He never promises an easy life, but He does promise us a full life. Full of adventure, love, struggle, growth, and joy. All the promises are written in a book He gave for us to read. It is like a love letter. It is full of what He has done for us in the past, the way He sees and loves us, more about who He is, facts about life, and promises for the future. He also tells us some things we all wanna know: like about our identity. Here are just a few descriptors of who He says we are, but go look for yourself there are SO many more.

.

List of Promises God has Over Our Identities:

1. New Creations (2 Corinthians 5:17) -- This means the world/the enemy does not get to put any label on you. No matter what your past may look like, 10 years ago or even yesterday.

2. Chosen + Appointed ( John 15:16 ) -- This means you are not just another number to God. He knows you and loves you individually and has a plan for you.

3. Friend ( John 15:15 ) -- God is not a dictator/slave driver/mean dad. Not only are you His kid but He also sees you as a friend. In this same verse He promises to tell you things and talk with you.

4. Crucified (Galatians 2:20) -- Hear me out. I was not sure how to title this one, but what I mean is what the verse says. That when we receive salvation it means that our old physical self and desire to sin must be crucified every day. We are redeemed and covered in the blood of Christ and our old way of living along with our desire to sin in the present must die daily and we must now live by faith in the Son of God who loved us and gave himself for us.

You are not your job, relationship, economic standing, insecurities, or labels others have called you. You were created by someone who did it with intention and SO much love. God. He knows you and wants you to know him. He has made it so possible. All you have to do it say Jesus help me know you and He will show you I promise.
